Saltburn Beach

Saltburn beach is located on the north-east coast of England. When I visited I tried to capture the most iconic parts which are well known to the seaside. In the past before Saltburn became a tourist destination it was nothing but an old fishing town. However numerous visitors brought prosperity to the town, enabling growth inland and westward. With no television or radio to go home to, the thousands who arrived by train on cheap excursion tickets stayed till the evening.

I visited the library when I was in Saltburn which enabled me to gain more knowledge on the small seaside town. Saltburn Times by Chris Scot Wilson explained that there was many activites to do when visiting the beach, 'when buckets and spades became gritty with sand there were donkey rides or a walk along the pier'. I also found something quite strange which were called 'Bathing Machines', these machines could be hired and would be towed by a horse into the rippling breakers. The public could change into their bathing suits and even go into the sea in the complete privacy. Another main tourist attraction that started in the 60's is surfing, becoming increasingly popular as the town progressed and developed further.
